Compound microscope
A microscope with 3 different lens systems in the instrument -- the ocular eyepiece lens, the objective lenses, and the condenser lens
View Calculate magnification
Ocular 10x
Objective lenses (4x, 10x, 40, 100x)
Ocular x Objective = Total magnif.
View Magnification
The ability to increase the apparent size of an object
View Resolution
The ability to distinguish objects which are close together; a combination of magnification and clarity
View Field of View
The diameter of the field you see when you look through the ocular lens. As the mag increases, the FOV decreases
View Working Distance
Distance between the tip of the lense and the surface of the specimen when in focus. As mag increases, working distance decreases
View Depth of Field
Vertical distance a specimen is in focus. As mag increase, DOF decreases
View Stage
Platform of microscope on which to place specimen
View Condenser
Focuses the light on the specimen
View Iris Diaphragm
Regulates the intensity of light passing through the specimen
View Parfocal
If a specimen is in focus at one mag power, it should be approximately in focus at all other powers
View Parcentric
Speciment will be approximately centered at all levels of mag.
